I just finished watching "We Were Soldiers" and it made a deep impression on me, perhaps because I was in the service during the Viet Nam war. I will also mention "Glory" (1989) as another that I thought was excellent.

    Different wars have different movies.

My favorite WWII movie is Inglorious Basterds. Favorite Vietnam movie is a tie between Platoon and Full Metal Jacket.

    Band of Brothers
    Big Red One
Kelly's Heroes (an all time great comedy)
    Saving Private Ryan
    Patton

The 60's and 70's had a number of good WWII movies, better than the later Nam movies of the 90's: Midway, Battle of the Bulge, Tora, Tora, Tora.

I'm a history buff, so it's a toss between Saving Private Ryan and Pearl Harbor, by Jerry Bruckheimer. I also like Patton with George C. Scott.
